NAGPUR: Promising top-order batter Mohd Faiz has been named captain of Vidarbha team for the forthcoming under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The One-Day tournament will be played in Pune from October 7 to 14.
The stylish left-hander, Faiz, had played under-19 Challenger Trophy last year. His attacking 145-run knock in the Challengers had put him in contention for the under-19 World Cup. However, he missed the bus after he did not score much against Bangladesh in a tri-series in November.
Middle order batsman Danish Malewar, drafted in the side, had also played in the Challengers. The right-hander is the backbone of the Vidarbha side.
Allrounder Jagjot Singh Sasan, who was instrumental in taking the team to Cooch Behar Trophy knockouts, will be the southpaw skipper's deputy.
The Junior selection committee headed by P Vivek declared the team after a bunch of players from VCA camp played a couple of matches against visiting Mumbai at VCA Jamtha.

Faiz (captain), Danish Malewar, Jagjot Singh Sasan (vc), Tushar Suryavanshi, Siddhant Muley, Ryan Rajput, Rohit Binkar, Neel Athley, Ashit Singh, Gaurav Farde, Varun Bisht, Rajsingh Chauhan, Sanyog Bhagwat, Pratham Maheshwari, Dharmendra Thakur.
