(Picture: Metropolitan Police)Two men have been arrested after a young imam was found stabbed to death near a canal in east London.
Two men, aged 18 and 21, have now been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Both remain in police custody.
An investigation was launched after police were called to Tower Hamlets at 08:43hrs on Saturday, 6 November by the London Ambulance Service to reports of an unresponsive man.
Officers attended with paramedics and found Mohammed suffering stab injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friends have since mourned the loss of Islamic community leader Mohammed, who has been described as an “amazing role model”.
Friend Mohammed Saleh wrote on Facebook: “We visited Aqil’s family yesterday and they are in the same state any family would be, holding on to their belief in Allah, his messenger and the promise of being reunited with those they love dearly.
“Aqil taught so many boys and girls how to recite the book of Allah with passion.
“He was an amazing role model and inspiration for these kids who were excited to attend their lessons just to be in his joyful company.”
An online fundraiser in his memory has raised more than £15,000.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, said: “The inquiry is progressing but we are still looking for anyone with information.
