Mohamed Sanu floated as a trade idea for Redskins

Once again, the Washington Redskins head toward training camp with a question mark at wide receiver.

The team added players in the draft and have carryovers from last year like Paul Richardson, yet the hopes one of them can suddenly burst into No. 1 material aren’t high — hence the Redskins turning down a fifth year on Josh Doctson.

Ask NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks, the Redskins might find it wise to head to the trade market and target someone like Mohamed Sanu:

Imagine a big-bodied, hard-nosed pass catcher like the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Sanu coming onboard to give the ‘Skins a dependable chain mover to anchor the passing game. Sanu is coming off his most productive NFL season yet, yardage-wise (838), but with Calvin Ridley securing 10 touchdown catches as a rookie (plus 821 receiving yards) alongside Julio Jones, might Atlanta be tempted to move Sanu for additional draft capital?

And indeed, the Falcons might be willing to trade a wideout going on 30 years old who has two years left on his deal totaling a cap hit of $7-plus million in each season.

Sanu would be a brilliant fit too. He caught 66 passes with four scores last year, though his real value comes in moving the chains — 41 of those catches went for first downs.

When trying to develop a rookie quarterback, dependability like that is incredibly important. It’s hard to argue with the idea the Redskins should at least give the Falcons a call about such an idea.
