Mohamed Salah suggestions wrong as Liverpool's star man reaches new levels

Paul Gorst - 9

Another season of Mohamed Salah proving himself to be Liverpool's main-man up top. For a third successive campaign, the man affectionately known as the 'Egyptian King' has tipped past the 20-goal tally.

Already inside the Reds' top ten for all-time scorers, this season's contributions will see Liverpool lift a league title for the first time since 1990.

He may never get to the 44 of his debut campaign again but a Premier League winners' medal will sit nicely alongside its Champions League equivalent in his trophy cabinet instead.

A superstar of the modern game, Salah has been imperative to what Jurgen Klopp has and will achieve this season.

Important goals against Spurs, Man City and Bournemouth - to name just three - have helped keep the Reds on the straight and narrow.

At times a touch selfish, as evidenced by the storm-in-a-tea-cup incident at Burnley, but that is to be expected of one of the game's great goalscorers. Once more in with a shot of winning the Premier League's Golden Boot, Salah will go down in Anfield folklore.

It's wrong to suggest Liverpool supporters are starting to take Salah for granted.

They have simply grown accustomed to the astonishing feats from the remarkable Egyptian.

Even with nine games remaining, Salah has already reached the 20-goal mark for the third successive season, the first Liverpool player since Michael Owen to do so.

Only three goals behind Jamie Vardy, he could yet claim a third successive Premier League Golden Boot award.

So many of Salah's goals have been key, whether the opening goal in a game or the decisive strike.

And then there are the nine assists he has contributed, all while being more closely marked than ever.

Sadio Mane may have had a marginally better season overall, but that's not slight on Salah.

He has been as he has for much of his Liverpool career - devastatingly brilliant.

It's only when you step back and take it all in that you get a real sense of just how good Mohamed Salah really is.

Another 20 goals in the bag and nine assists dispelling this myth that he is somehow greedy (what good goalscorer isn't?), he continues to be Liverpool's focal point.

Salah scores big goals - ask Manchester United - and he is the man opposition defenders fear most.

That first 44-goal campaign will always be the most magical of Salah's seasons, but this feels like his most efficient.

Indeed, Salah is now operating at such a level that his goalscoring feats aren't even highlighted - but they should be appreciated.

He'll go down as one of Liverpool's greatest goalscorers - and the star man in the side that finally ended that league drought.
