Mo Salah statue: Liverpool star gets the Cristiano Ronaldo treatment with new sculpture

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has had the Cristiano Ronaldo treatment with his very own statue - and the results are similarly bizarre.

The 26-year-old broke the Premier League goalscoring record last season when he scored 32 goals in his debut campaign.

He won the PFA Player of the Award as well as being nominated for the Fifa Best Men's Award earlier this year.

His heroics on the pitch encouraged young Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah to spend the best part of a month creating her own homage to the Reds forward.

The sculptor told Egypt Independent that she carved out the statue’s gesture as “opening his arms to the fans” the celebration Salah has been renowned for after hitting the back of the net.

She unveiled her statue during the World Youth Forum (WYF) in Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday.

However, many have pointed out that there is a distinction between the statue and its true likeness to the real-life version of Salah.

Ronaldo's statue was criticised after being put on display at Madeira Airport , which led to the sculptor Emanuel Santos vowed to go back to the drawing board and create another more realistic design.
