Mohamed Salah snubbed as Liverpool star finishes behind Casemiro and seven others in awards vote

Mohamed Salah finished ninth in the voting for the FWA Footballer of the Year award despite scoring 19 times for Liverpool in the Premier League.

It didn't come as a surprise to see Manchester City's Erling Haaland crowned the winner after netting 35 times in the league with four games remaining.

Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard finished second and third in the vote after pushing the Gunners to a highly likely second placed finish and their first season in the Champions League since the 2016/17 campaign.

The Egyptian won both the PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year last season, but had to settle for ninth even though he's hit 30 goals in all competitions once again and has been the catalyst in Liverpool mounting a late top four charge.

Kevin De Bruyne had to settle for fourth spot while Manchester United's Marcus Rashford landed himself a place in the top five after his return to form. It was a shock to see England captain Harry Kane down in sixth despite notching 26 times in a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side this term.

Seventh was occupied by West Ham captain Declan Rice, who's side have been in a relegation battle while Casemiro's impact at Old Trafford earned himself an eighth place finish.

Newcastle United skipper Kieran Trippier rounded off the top 10 after being a key reason the Magpies are favourites to secure a Champions League spot.
