Mohamed Salah sent Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez Liverpool "legend" warning

John Barnes has fired a warning to Mohamed Salah over his Liverpool legacy - with the former Reds ace warning the Egyptian that he could fall foul of reaching legendary status if he quits the club.

Salah has been in sizzling form for Jurgen Klopp's side this season to cement his standing as one of the most productive players on the planet.

The 29-year-old has plundered 27 goals in just 32 games to keep the Reds firmly in hunt for the Premier League crown.

However, there are still concerns over his long-term future.

Salah has less than 18 months left to run on his current deal at Anfield - and talks over fresh terms have seemingly stalled.

Join the debate! Do you think Liverpool will be able to keep Salah at the club? Let us know here.

It's a situation that has sparked concerns amongst the Reds fanbase that Salah could quit the club if the Liverpool hierarchy fail to meet his demands.

And Barnes has warned Salah that he could be giving up legendary status at Anfield if he doesn't commit his long-term future to the club - just like Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.

"Salah is up there with one of the best players ever to play for Liverpool," Barnes told BonusCodeBets. "But if he’s not at the club next year because he leaves, it’s very much like Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.

"You have to really stay at Liverpool for a long time to be considered a legend.

"Of course he’s been one of the greats, but that’s not important. What’s important is what he does while he’s there. At the end of his career we can look and say ‘where does he rank?’"

Before Salah's time on Merseyside, both Suarez and Torres were revered by the Kop for their goalscoring acumen.

The potent pair were well on their way to legendary status at Anfield before they both made big-money moves elsewhere.

Torres was lured to London by Chelsea in a £50million deal after bagging 81 goals in 142 games, while Suarez was snapped up by Barcelona after firing 82 goals in 133 games.

Salah has already eclipsed both of those tallies by some distance - but his lavish demands are reportedly making an extended stay at the club an issue.

While Salah has reiterated his desire to stay put, it's been reported that he's demanding a staggering £400,000-a-week salary.

And that whopping sum is proving to be a major sticking point in negotiations.

The Reds have already begun planning for life beyond their potent front-three with the signings of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

However, it's hard to see either of them replicating the stunning form that Salah has produced this year.

Even if he doesn't achieve legendary status like Suarez and Torres, it seems a sure bet that Salah would be a much harder act to follow if he does follow in their footsteps by quitting the club.
