Mohamed Salah's very different long-range shot while playing for Chelsea in 2014

Sunday was a day to remember for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian hasn't been as prolific in front of goal this season as he was in 2017/18, but that was surely always to be expected following his stellar first season with Liverpool which yielded 44 goals.

It was a far cry from his previously limited impact in English football when he was at Chelsea , where he struggled to get a look-in under Jose Mourinho and often had to be content with bit-part roles and starts in lesser matches.

One of those starts came in a League Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town - later famously called 'Strawberry' by Eden Hazard - in October 2014.

And after Salah's stunning strike secured Liverpool's 2-0 win over his former club on Sunday, fans remembered what happened when he tried a similar effort from distance in a Chelsea shirt in that game at Shrewsbury's New Meadow.

Now Salah cutting inside from the right and shooting with his left foot is a familiar sight of course, but he usually opts for more of a curling effort and not for the power he showed on Sunday.

Seeking to make an impact and impress Mourinho, Salah went for power against Shrewsbury too, only to hopelessly shank his effort wide and send it out for a throw-in as he crumpled embarrassingly to the ground.

Thankfully for Liverpool fans, his effort four-and-a-half years later was a lot better.

Practice makes perfect, Mo.
