Mohamed Salah's old team-mate admits he did not see Liverpool ace's dramatic rise coming

With Mohamed Salah back among the goals and battling for a second consecutive Premier League Golden Boot, one of the Liverpool ace's former team-mates has admitted that he did not see the Egyptian's transformation into a prolific scorer coming during their own time together.

Salah netted an incredible 44 goals during his debut campaign at Anfield following his move from Roma in 2017 and while his current tally for this season stands at half that figure, his 19 strikes in the Premier League have him in joint first place for the Golden Boot alongside one of the division's greatest-ever finishers, Sergio Aguero.

This is the second time in the 26-year-old's career that he has broken the 20-goal barrier, a feat he never achieved before his transfer to the Reds .

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher makes huge claims about Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

After a two-and-a-half year stint in Serie A, Salah is in his second spell in English football after failing to hold down a regular spot in the Chelsea side first time around.

One of his colleagues from both his time in the capitals of the UK and Italy, Ashley Cole, has admitted he is surprised with how the winger has developed but believes that his upturn in form is down to a change in attitude.

Now 38 and playing under another Stamford Bridge old boy Frank Lampard at Derby County, Cole, who won 107 caps for England, was asked on Sky Sports whether he saw Salah's improvement coming and said: “To be honest, no.

“I saw in training the ability that he had but he seems to have become more ruthless.

“I don’t mean selfish in a bad way, but he wants to score goals. That’s his job. He needs to score goals.

“[Salah], Firmino and Mane all play well together but I think he’s become a little bit more ‘it’s about me now, it’s my time’.

“He’s had enough of the other players, being in their shadow, and he wants to be the main man.”
