Mohamed Salah's new conditions for Liverpool contract as winger issues transfer demand

Mohamed Salah has reportedly demanded that Liverpool sign a new forward as part of his contract negotiations.

The Anfield club have been locked in talks with the Egyptian for the majority of the season as they look to tie him down to a long-term deal with his current one expiring in 2023.

Jurgen Klopp provided a positive update following Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Tottenham at the weekend, but he is yet to sign on the dotted line.

But Sky Germany claims Salah has asked Jurgen Klopp's men to buy a new striker during discussions over a new deal.

The Reds have been linked with Erling Haaland, who is set to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, and Lille star Jonathan David.

Klopp is confident that a deal can be struck between both parties but isn't worried about talks dragging on.

He told Sky Sports: "We are in really good conversations.

"I want it to happen, but when? I couldn't care less."

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Salah will be missing for Liverpool in January as the Africa Cup of Nations looks set to go ahead.

There were claims the tournament might be postponed due to the pandemic, but CAF suggests that isn't the case.

A statement read: "The president, Patrice Motsepe, held a meeting with the leader of Cameroon on Tuesday to focus on safety and the challenges presented with the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The President of CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe held a very constructive and fruitful meeting with the President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Mr. Paul Biya in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Tuesday, 21 December 2021.

"During the meeting, Dr Motsepe emphasized the importance of the collaboration between the Government of Cameroon, CAF and other stakeholders in implementing Covid-19 global best practices at all the stadiums, training pitches, hotels and all the areas where the players, match officials, spectators and visitors will be during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021. This is particularly important in light of the Omicron variant.

“CAF is proceeding together with its partners and other stakeholders in the preparations of a successful hosting of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 starting on 09 January 2022”

Egypt have also reportedly agreed to let Liverpool star Salah remain with the club until after the Chelsea game before joining up with his national team for the tournament.
