Mohamed Salah's heroics at Liverpool have surprised former Chelsea teammate

One former teammate of Mohamed Salah is surprised by how much the Liverpool star has improved in recent seasons.

The Egyptian completed his move to Anfield in 2017 from Roma, and has since established himself as one of the most feared forwards in world football.

In 144 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, Salah has bagged 91 goals, and has scooped the Premier League Golden Boot award in the past two seasons.

And, let’s not forget, Salah also scored a crucial penalty in the final of last season’s Champions League competition, helping secure the club’s sixth European Cup.

But it wasn’t always like this for the attacker, who had to endure a tough time during his two-year spell on the books at Chelsea.

John Obi Mikel, who was a former team mate of Salah during the pair’s time at Stamford Bridge, admits he did not foresee the Egyptian becoming the star player he has gone on to become.

"When Salah came to Chelsea, he was a young boy, but he had a nice personality and everyone loved him," Mikel told OnTime Sports, quoted by The Mirror.

"He was very disciplined, we were close friends, talking a lot and joking a lot, he was a good friend. I believed in his development, but frankly I did not imagine that he would reach the quality that he has now."
