Mohamed Salah names three players who inspired Liverpool star the most

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed the three players who he used to look up to when he was starting out in his football career and confirmed his desire to win the Ballon d'Or.

The 29-year-old enjoyed as stellar 2021/22 campaign for the Reds, winning the League Cup and FA Cup and finished as joined top-scorer in the Premier League with 23 goals. He also won Football Writers' Player of the Year and PFA Player's Player of Year capping an outstanding season.

And in an interview with Professional Footballer's Association (PFA), the Egyptian forward was asked which players made him fall in love with football when he was growing up playing in the street. Salah said: "I loved (Francesco) Totti, Brazilian Ronaldo and (Zinedine) Zidane. These three were like (the best)."

Salah also confirmed in the interview that his favourite goal for Liverpool was at Manchester City in the Champions League in 2018 and his favourite match was the Champions League triumph against Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. But when asked what individual goal he still wanted to achieve in his career, the Anfield hero immediately responded: "The Ballon d'Or".

Quizzed on how close he felt he was to becoming only the second African player, after George Weah, to win the prestigious award, he added: "Hopefully not far."
