Mohamed Salah makes 'special' Liverpool claim and sends silverware message

Mohamed Salah has once again been named Liverpool's Standard Chartered Player of the Month for September after he also collected the award in August.

The Egyptian scored six goals in all competitions throughout the month as the Reds sit top of their Champions League group and second in the Premier League table.

Although not in September, Salah scored arguably the goal of the season so far in Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Manchester City before the international break.

The 29-year-old has outlined the influence supporters had on the game as he discussed what was a 'special' atmosphere.

"The atmosphere was great, that's what makes it more special: the fans, the Anfield atmosphere," Salah told the club website after collecting the award.

"We enjoyed the game; not in our top performances but in the second half we struck back and the atmosphere helped us a lot to play a good game."

Asked about breaking the record to become the fastest Liverpool player to reach 100 Premier League goals for the club, Salah said: "Of course I'm very proud.

"To score any goal, for me, is very important but to score the fastest 100th goal for Liverpool is something special.

"I'm always trying to score goals, always trying to help the team. But this one I think is more special to be the fastest one to score 100 goals."

The Reds find themselves in a tussle for the league title this season with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United among the clubs pushing for the top honours.

After missing out to City last season in the league and exiting the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, Salah believes Liverpool have the quality to win something this time around.

He continued: "We have to give our best always to win something and I think we have the quality for that.

"We have a top team, so we have to push ourselves to the limit and try to win something. I'm sure everybody thinks the same.

"That's what we need, just to keep in our head that we finish the season winning something."
