Mohamed Salah makes Liverpool goals claim and sounds Newcastle United warning

Mohamed Salah has claimed he isn't bothered about who scores for a winning Liverpool despite registering his best start to a Premier League season in front of goal.

Salah has netted three times in his first four top-flight appearances this campaign, a total he took five games to reach in 2017-18 and six last campaign.

It was enough for him to be named Liverpool's official Player of the Month for August, while his solo strike in the 3-1 win over Arsenal won the Goal of the Month gong.

Salah became embroiled in a minor controversy following the 3-0 win at Burnley a fortnight ago when facing accusations of being too greedy after failing to pass to a subsequently irate Sadio Mane during the closing stages.

The Egyptian, though, maintains victories rather than goals are his main aim.

"I feel good," he said. "Last season and the season before I'd scored three goals after nine or eight games (in all competitions) but this time I've scored it after four games, that's fine. I'm happy about it!

"But the most important thing for me is to keep winning, winning, winning, winning.

"We won all the games last month (in the Premier League) with good results.

"It's always good to score goals but as I've said many times, the most important thing is the team win games. As long as the team are winning, anyone can score. We are happy about that."

Liverpool are the only team in England to still possess a 100% league record, which they will hope to extend when they resume Premier League hostilities at home to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Reds also defeated Chelsea to win the UEFA Super Cup during August, and Salah said to liverpoolfc.com: "We had a good month. We won a big trophy in that time. It was something unbelievable for us as a team.

"Everyone showed the performance and the way we can play. We are happy about what we have done right now.

"Newcastle is always tough home or away, the way they play. They have a good team and good players and a good coach. We just need to focus on ourselves and do our job.

"Last season we lost the Premier League by one point and just need to keep focusing on each game right now. We don't need to lose any points."
