Mohamed Salah makes "fight" admission ahead of Liverpool return to Thiago's "worst nightmare"

Liverpool booked their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night with victory over RB Leipzig.

Now Mohamed Salah is hopeful that the Reds can turn that triumph into the start of a winning run... and end what Thiago has described as their "worst nightmare".

Jurgen Klopp’s side won 2-0 in Budapest to ensure a 4-0 aggregate success over the Bundesliga outfit.

Europe has provided relief for the Reds amid their shocking Premier League slump.

And with Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips looking solid at centre-back, protected by a midfield trio that featured Fabinho in his natural position - “we all want Fabinho as the No.6” said Jurgen Klopp in the aftermath - they never looked remotely in danger against RBL.

Salah and Sadio Mane both scored and looked as dangerous throughout as they have done in weeks, with Diogo Jota adding extra life and verve between them.

And speaking post-game, Salah admitted: “We have had a few injuries this season. We have been unlucky but the most important thing is we have to keep fighting.

“We just have to take each game at a time and not look to the big picture, because if you look to the big picture there can be too much pressure.

“It has been tough in the Premier League, we don't want it to be tough. It is part of the game.

“The last couple of years we were winning and flying, this year we have had injuries, it is hard.

“Hopefully, now we have two or three or four centre-backs, we can keep winning.”

Salah and his teammates know that their hopes of a top four finish are hanging by a thread after their 12 points in 14 games slump - a situation that places even more pressure on their bid to reclaim Europe's biggest prize.

But the Egyptian is refusing to quit on either potential avenue into next season's Champions League.

Speaking to BT Sport, he continued: "It is a big result for us. We came here after losing a few games in the Premier League.

“The team is not in the best shape but we want to fight in the Champions League and also fight in the Premier League and see what can happen.

“I would love to score more. I am happy I scored and the team won, that is the most important thing.”

Midfielder Thiago admitted after they booked their place in the Champions League last eight that the Reds couldn’t have imagined their current slump at home.

Like Salah, he hopes that their success over Julian Nagelsmann’s side can kickstart a domestic push too.

“It’s been a tough period for all of us because in our worst nightmares we didn't expect we would be in this position in the Premier League but we try to perform as best we can and try to get better,” he told LFCTV.

"I think that this performance it is positive for all of us.”

Certainly, the display in Budapest showed that this side isn't out of fight. Now they just need to translate their European displays back to the domestic scene - starting at Wolves on Monday night.
