Mohamed Salah in talks with European club as Liverpool star wants to avoid ‘Saudi option’: report

Mohamed Salah is in talks with a European club to continue his storied career at, as the Liverpool man is reportedly trying to avoid the ‘Saudi option’.

Mohamed Salah’s next club is shaping up to be in Europe, however, talks with the side have broken down due to an ‘ongoing election atmosphere’.

The Egyptian winger, who has scored 12 goals and recorded nine assists in 38 games for Liverpool this season, is also demanding a large salary for his services.

Mohamed Salah in talks with Fenerbahce

According A Spor, Mohamed Salah and his representative held talks with Turkish side Fenerbahce during Ramadan, with two meetings taking place.

The 33-year-old, who met with Fenerbahce’s Head of Football Ertan Torunogullari, demanded an annual salary of €20 million for his services.

Salah’s representative made the Egyptian’s priorities clear, reportedly saying: ‘We are not considering the ‘[Saudi] Arabia option right now; it could be Europe.’

Talks with the side are currently on hold due to an ‘ongoing election atmosphere’ after the Galatasaray derby, which took place last weekend and ended in a 3-0 loss for Fenerbahche.

Fenerbahche have plunged into turmoil following the derby defeat, with manager Domenico Tedesco being sacked and club president Sadettin Saran calling an early presidential election, alongside the announcement that he will not be in the race.

As a result, talks with Salah could end up breaking down entirely, or the Egyptian could end up being the first marquee signing of a revitalised project, led by a new club president.

Mohamed Salah, who is reported to announce his next club within days, has scored two goals in his last three Premier League matches, playing under sixty minutes in his latest appearance before exiting the pitch with a hamstring injury.

The Egyptian – feared by fans to miss the remainder of the season – is expected to return to Premier League action for Liverpool after a club statement was issued last night revealing his hamstring injury to be minor.

As for his next destination, the important information here is that Salah is looking to remain in Europe ahead of the World Cup 2026, with a marked avoidance of the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool return to Premier League action this weekend against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, as both teams look to secure Champions League qualification.
