Mohamed Salah highlights the attacking edge missing at Chelsea as Manchester United stumble again

After Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 win against Brentford on Saturday evening, the Blues stay top of the Premier League table with 19 points in eight games played.

Ben Chilwell scored a brilliant goal, with multiple saves that needed to be made from Edouard Mendy in the second half to keep Chelsea from dropping points away from home.

So, it’s looking all good for Thomas Tuchel’s side so far. But how did their rivals get on?

Goals galore for Liverpool

Result: Watford 0 - 5 Liverpool

Liverpool's recent games including their thrashing of Watford showed Chelsea they’re lacking that resounding attacking threat, despite acquiring Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

Claudio Ranieri’s return in the Premier League was an unhappy one with Roberto Firmino bagging a hat-trick, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also getting on the scoresheet.

Where Chelsea are finding it difficult to bag goals and put games to bed, they’re increasingly becoming cagey and hard-fought. Take their games against Southampton and Brentford on Saturday evening for example.

Liverpool showed them just how worrisome their attack will be to compete with this season.

Resolute result in Manchester

Result: Manchester City 2 - 0 Burnley

Pep Guardiola’s side overcame a shaky second-half, with Kevin De Bruyne’s goal cementing a fairly comfortable win at the Etihad Stadium.

For a team that hasn’t recorded a win all season, Burnley did their best to get a goal back after Bernado Silva’s opener. Failing to put away chances for Manchester City could have cost them.

It sounds like a familiar story at Chelsea who have on some occasions failed to capitalise and be more effective in front of goal.

The result leaves City two points away from Chelsea in third position who alongside Liverpool are their more formidable rivals in the bid to clinch the Premier League title this season.

Trouble in Ole’s house

Result: Leicester 4 - 2 Manchester United

Manchester United started off well at the King Power Stadium with a truly wonderful goal from Mason Greenwood. But, it all swiftly went downhill from there with Leicester growing into the game, who were the better side on the day.

Goals from Tielemans, Soyuncu, Daka and Leicester veteran, Jamie Vardy swatted the visitors away like a pesky fly.

It’s a great result for Chelsea who continue to bridge the gap between one of their Manchester rivals, who now sit in 5th position in the table.
