Mohamed Salah fires Egypt to AFCON victory as Liverpool star off the mark

Mohamed Salah fired Egypt to a first victory at the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Guinea Bissau.

The Pharaohs suffered defeat at the hands of Nigeria in their opening group stage game on Tuesday, but have responded well to that setback by claiming three points of their own to move second in Group D.

Guinea Bissau thought they had cancelled out Salah's goal late on in the match, though a VAR check ruled out Mama Balde's effort for an earlier foul in the build up.

It has been a relatively strong start to AFCON for the Liverpool trio present at the tournament, with Naby Keita and Sadio Mane impressing for their respective nations.

Mane scored a winning goal for Senegal in their group stage opener against Zimbabwe, while Keita has earned the man-of-the-match award in both of his two outings for Guinea - the second of which arrived in a head-to-head meeting with Mane's native country.
