Mohamed Salah equals astonishing Premier League record after Liverpool goal

Mohamed Salah has equalled Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring or assisting in 15 consecutive Premier League games.

The Egyptian forward fired the Reds into a 2-1 lead at Anfield against Newcastle after Sadio Mane’s initial effort was saved.

The goal was Salah’s 22nd in just 23 games across all competitions this season.

Vardy’s record spanned from August to December 2015, the season that Leicester City went on to win the Premier League title.

Salah and Mane's presence will undoubtedly be missed when they leave for the African Cup of Nations next month and how the Reds deal with their absence could be pivotal to their hopes of winning the league this season.

The Magpies took an early shock lead through Jonjoe Shelvey’s sensational 20 yard strike.

Diogo Jota equalised for the Reds with a close-range finish after his initial header was saved.

A win for Jurgen Klopp’s side would leave them a point behind leaders Manchester City.
