Mohamed Salah contract talks continue after '£500,000-per-week' wage reports

Liverpool are continuing to press ahead with talks over a new long-term contract for Mohamed Salah.

Negotiations are ongoing between the Reds and representatives of Salah, who is in the final two years of his current deal that was signed in 2018.

Liverpool are keen to reward the Egyptian for his continued outstanding contribution having scored a remarkable 127 goals in 206 games since arriving from Roma for £43.9million in the summer of 2017.

However, the ECHO understands the amount Salah is asking for is not in the region of the £500,000-a-week that was being suggested over the weekend.

Salah's agent Ramy Abbas Issa caused a stir last month after his client scored in the 3-0 opening weekend win at Norwich City by tweeting the message "I hope they're watching", a barely-concealed reference to the contract talks with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp subsequently provided an update on the discussions, and said: "We're all adults, we're all professionals, there are talks and there are talks and when there is a decision we will tell you.

"Until then it is only important how the parties work together on these things."

Liverpool have made a new contract for Salah a priority having spent much of the summer agreeing lengthy deals with the core of their squad.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Harvey Elliott have all put pen to paper, with Caoimhin Kelleher, Adrian and Nat Phillips also signing new contracts.
