Mohamed Salah breaks impressive Premier League record held by Chelsea legend in Man United clash

Mohamed Salah became the highest scoring African player in the Premier League in Liverpool’s win over Manchester United on Sunday.

To cap off a dominant first-half display against Manchester United on Saturday, the Egyptian found the net twice to end a fine first 45 minutes for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He didn’t stop there, however, and secured his hat-trick immediately after the break when he delicately chipped the ball over David de Gea to make it 5-0 to the travelling team.

His new tally of 107 goals means that he surpasses Didier Drogba’s previous record in the competition.

Drogba, who represented the Blues between 2004 and 2012 - including a second stint in 2014/15 - registered 104 goals during his trophy-laden spell at Stamford Bridge, becoming the first African centurion in the Premier League as a result.

Salah is on course to extend his new record, and it may end up standing for years, especially after he admitted that he wants to stay at the club until the end of his career.

“It does not depend with me,” Salah told Sky Sports , ahead of Sunday’s clash with United.

“If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football [career], but I can't say much, it's not in my hands.

“It depends on what the club wants, not what depends with me.

"At the moment, I can't see myself ever playing against Liverpool, that would make me sad.

“It's hard, I don't want to talk about it. It would make me really sad, at the moment, I don't see myself against Liverpool but let's see what happens in the future."
