Mohamed Salah and Liverpool know only too well what a firing Harry Kane can mean for Tottenham

Three years ago, Harry Kane experienced his greatest goalscoring period as a Tottenham player; he found the net 30 times in 37 Premier League appearances and was recognised as one of Europe's elite marksmen.

The year before, he scored 29 times and 12 months before that, he managed to find the net on 25 occasions. Scoring was normal and natural for the English striker, with the 20-goal mark breached in four consecutive campaigns between 2014 and 2018.

As Spurs began to suffer from a relative decline, though, Kane's product also encountered minor problems; the England captain scored 17 goals in 2018/19 and last season, he beat the goalkeeper 18 times.

Such is Kane's remarkable level that scoring only 17 goals in a season was deemed as enough to be labelled as a concern but nevertheless, some suggested that he had already experienced his peak.

However, although the current campaign is only five matches old, there is reason to believe that Kane's impressive numbers are set to return as a consequence of his full fitness and the recent summer rebuild undertaken by Jose Mourinho.

In the past few weeks, the Spurs boss has removed Dele Alli from his starting eleven and he's in the process of integrating Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale into his new-look 4-3-3 system, with Kane afforded the license to roam given the absence of a no.10.

Son Heung-min and the likes have demonstrated an intent to dart in behind whenever Kane drifts from his usual position, which stretches and disorganises opposing defences.

The 27 year-old has already found the net five times and he's averaging 4.9 shots per 90 at the moment, which is notably better than his average of 2.7 last year and 3.6 the year before.

When Kane bagged 30 goals, he posted a whopping shots per 90 average of 5.3, with the general rule of thumb being that the more a player shoots, the more he tends to score.

When it comes to providing for others, Kane's seven assists is the most that he's ever posted in single season, dwarfing his previous best of just five in 2016/17.

He's never previously generated more than 1.1 shots for his teammates per 90 in the Premier League but this time around, he's posting 2.7 which is strikingly high and very out of character.

The 2020/21 campaign is little more than a month old but based on the early performances of Kane, it looks as though he's very much back to his best, the like of which Mohamed Salah and Liverpool know only too well.

It's difficult to predict exactly how many goals and assists he'll end up with that this rate, but it's not out of the question to suggest that his personal record of 30 is under threat.
