Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp already silenced Michael Owen's 'devious' Sadio Mane Liverpool theory

Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah have already rebuffed Michael Owen's latest claims about a potential goalscoring row between the Liverpool striker and Sadio Mane.

Mane has been questioned in some quarters this week after continuing a trend of staying on his feet in the penalty area despite contact from an opposition player.

The Senegalese forward opted to ride a challenge from Andreas Christensen on Wednesday night despite the Chelsea defender making slight contact.

Mane did similar in matches against Southampton and Newcastle, with Liverpool dropping points in both games.

As a result, Owen suggested a bizarre theory that Mane's decision to stay on his feet could be because of an intra-squad rivalry with Salah.

"I couldn’t believe he didn’t go down there and look, I’m not advocating he does," Owen said on Optus Sport.

"It was a great touch and he possibly thought he might get a chance at the end of it ... but he did something similar a week ago [against Sheffield United].

"I just wonder, and it might be a little bit of devious thoughts creeping into my head, Mo Salah is the penalty taker in this team, and if he (Mane) thinks he’s getting a chance to score he thinks ‘well I’m going to score, if I don’t stay on my feet, Mo Salah’s going to get another penalty.

"These players have been going for the golden boot for the past couple of seasons. It might be a wild sort of theory, but the competitive nature of him and Mo Salah. We’ve seen them not passing to each other when one of them is in a much better position to the other.

"We’re seeing a little bit of selfishness, we’re seeing a little bit of disgruntled behaviour - Mo Salah shaking his head [when he was subbed off].

"I just think a couple of times there, I’ve seen Mane go down for those kind of opportunities...and (to not do it) two games on the spin? It just made me think a little bit."

Salah and Klopp both dismissed any suggestions of a rift between the pair last season when Mane reacted angrily to Salah's decision to shoot during a victory over Burnley.

Klopp dismissed the Burnley moment as insignificant, revealing that any differences were resolved quickly after the game.

Salah echoed his manager's comments when he was asked by Sky Sports if there was competition with him and Mane on who can score the most goals.

"Yes, of course - me!", the Egyptian laughed. "No, no, we don't look at it like that.

"If none of us score and the game finishes zero-zero - which doesn't happen often - we are really angry and we get annoyed by that. But when we're on the pitch and we're winning, it's great."

Salah added: "In my mind, the way I think about it is that everything starts in the dressing room.

"The relationships you have with everyone can make a huge difference on the pitch.

"We all have great relationships and I think that helps us in games and in training. It creates a good mood."
