Mohamed Magdy in agent's Celtic claim as Egyptian rising star touted for long-term Parkhead plan

Al-Ahly star Mohamed Magdy is a target for Celtic, according to the player's agent.

The attacking midfielder, 24, joined the Egyptian giants from Pyramids FC last year and helped in their run to the African Champions League final.

Known largely by his nickname Afsha, the fully-fledged Egypt international contributed with five goals and eight assists in last season's Egyptian Premier League as his club stormed to the title.

The Parkhead midfield is already competitive in an attacking sense after Tom Rogic's recent re-emergence and Ryan Christie 's stellar performances, with both playing key roles in Sunday's 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen.

And the likes of Olivier Ntcham and David Turnbull would also make it hard for any new recruits in the position to establish themselves in manager Neil Lennon 's first-team plans.

But agent Abdelrahman Ismail believes Afsha could still make a switch to Parkhead by being loaned out upon signing.

He said: "Scottish club Celtic are very interested in the services of Al Ahly’s Mohamed Magdy Afsha.

"Celtic want to sign Afsha and then loan him out to a European club. However, Al Ahly is against the idea of letting the player go especially as they are preparing for the CAF Champions League final."

Al-Ahly await great rivals Zamalek or Raja Casablanca in the final later this month.

Afsha's agent previously insisted Celtic had made an offer for his client just days before the October 5 transfer deadline.

Ismail said: "Mohamed has an offer from Celtic and one from a club in Saudi Arabia. It's up to Al-Ahly to accept or reject the offers."
