Mohamed Magdy given Celtic hands off warning as Al-Ahly hit back at Egypt star's agent

Al-Ahly have hit out at Mohamed Magdy's agent after the midfielder was touted for a move to Celtic.

The attacking midfielder, 24, joined the Egyptian giants from Pyramids FC last year and helped in their run to the African Champions League final.

Known largely by his nickname Afsha, the fully-fledged Egypt international contributed with five goals and eight assists in last season's Egyptian Premier League as his club stormed to the title.

Agent Abdelrahman Ismail insisted Celtic were "very interested" in signing his client with a view to loaning him out to another European club before integrating him in Neil Lennon 's squad.

But Magdy's current club insist there has been no offer from the Premiership champions as they hit back at his agent.

Al-Ahly director of football, Sayed Abdel Hafeez, said: "Firstly, there has been no offer for Mohamed from Celtic or anyone else.

"And secondly, this is not the time to talk about transfers. All our focus is on the Champions League Final and this kind of needless talk is distracting for both the player and the club.

"We accept there will be interest and eventual offers for him and that's a tribute to his success this season.

"But at this moment, there are no offers and Mohamed is putting all his efforts in his preparation for the Final."

Magdy, who is also known as Afscha in his homeland, still has four years of his deal to go at Al-Ahly, who paid £900,000 to land him last year.

He was handed his international debut by then-manager Hector Cuper two years ago and has five caps. He played in two African Cup of Nations qualifiers last year against Kenya and Comoros.
