Mohamed Magdy ends Celtic speculation as Al-Ahly star's decision points to transfer mischief

Mohamed Magdy has ended speculation of a move to Celtic by signing a new deal with Al-Ahly.

The Egypt international's agent claimed the Premiership champions wanted to sign him earlier this month.

Al-Ahly hit back and insisted there'd been no offer from Neil Lennon 's side and rebuked Magdy's agent for creating unhelpful hype around the player ahead of a momentous African Champions League Final against either bitter city rivals Zamalek or Raja Casablanca.

And now the player's decision to finally agree a new deal could hint at some age-old transfer mischief in drumming up interest in a player to force a negotiation breakthrough.

Magdy has been handed a significant pay rise in his new deal which now runs for another four years.

An Al-Ahly statement said: "Mohamed Magdy has agreed a new improved contract and is now more appreciated financially than in his previous contract.

"We hope this will put an end to speculation about his future."

Magdy, who is also known as Afscha in his homeland, moved to Al-Ahly last year in a £900,000 transfer from fellow Egyptian club Pyramids FC.

He was handed his international debut by then-manager Hector Cuper two years ago and has five caps. He played in two African Cup of Nations qualifiers last year against Kenya and Comoros.
