Mohamed Elyounoussi's Celtic heroics draw Ralph Hasenhuttl salute as he hints at Southampton return chance

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has saluted Mohamed Elyounoussi 's stunning double and insists the attacker remains in his thoughts.

Elyounoussi notched two impressive goals during Celtic's 2-2 Europa League draw with Lille on Thursday night.

The Norwegian - who cost Saints £16million from Basel in 2018 - is on a season-long loan stint at Parkhead.

But Hasenhuttl has suggested the door remains open for a return to the Premier League next year.

He said: "I am very deeply invested in what my loan players do and I am very happy for (Elyounoussi) that he scored and I am happy to see it.

"And, definitely, the player has a chance to maybe come back in and to be a part of the team, maybe next year."

Elyounoussi has blown hot and cold so far this season but believes the European game is where Celtic will get the most out of him.

He said: "I’m happy to help the team to get the point.

“This is the level I want to play on. You play against good sides, get a bit more space and can just go for it.

“Sometimes in the Scottish league it’s a bit more difficult, you play against teams who defend well, it’s tight, not much space.

“That’s why I enjoy the European games."
