Mohamed Elyounoussi injury blow for Celtic as Neil Lennon faces nervous wait over winger

Celtic face a nervous wait to discover the extent of Mohamed Elyounoussi's injury after he was sent home form international duty.

The winger has been hugely impressive since joining on loan from Southampton but suffered a foot injury on international duty.

The Hoops were rocked this week after Israeli star Hatem Abd Elhamed was ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury, meaning he will miss the Betfred Cup Final against Rangers next month.

And Celtic manager Neil Lennon's mood won't have improved after discovering on loan Southampton midfielder Elyounoussi is also facing a period on the sidelines after Norwegian FA staff ordered him back to Glasgow.

Norway boss Lars Lagerback said: "Unfortunately, Mohamed has an injured foot and can't play against the Faroe Islands or Malta.

"He has left the squad and returned to his club."

Lennon recently heaped praise on the winger and stressed his recent performances showed why Southampton splashed out a fortune for him.

He said: "What you're seeing now is the player Southampton spent £16 million on. His intelligence on the ball, link-up play and fitness levels are incredible.

"We're delighted he's making us better and we're delighted we're making him better."
