Mohamed Elneny over Dani Ceballos, David Luiz rests - Arsenal predicted team vs West Ham

Mikel Arteta's mind will be eased ever so slightly with the fact he will no longer have the weight of choosing either Bernd Leno or Emi Martinez to start in goal anymore.

Leno will resume his role as the club's first choice goalkeeper, even with the impending arrival of Runar Alex Runarsson. He will be shielded by a back three once again which will consist of Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney flanking Gabriel Magalhaes as the middle man again.

David Luiz is back in contention after recovering from a neck spasm, but Leicester City in the Carabao Cup may offer a better setting for him to be eased back into the side, without the pressure of playing for Premier League points.

William Saliba playing for the Under-23s against Brighton on Friday [September 18] also makes him starting unlikely.

Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles will keep their roles as the side's wing-backs. Bellerin has made strides in the role and was quietly confident in the 3-0 win over Fulham, finding nice spaces to aid the Arsenal attack. This was done much more frequently by Maitland-Niles on the left who is quickly dominating his half of the pitch in this role under Arteta.

Although Granit Xhaka has cemented his place in midfield as the team's 'quarterback', there is still a battle to be had over who will partner him. Will it be Mohamed Elneny or Dani Ceballos.

Ceballos was impressive under Arteta last season, and was key to the way Arsenal hunted FA Cup glory but with a new season underway, he has to prove his worth again. Getting the jump on the Spaniard by having a pre-season, Elneny has impressed in every performance and is fully deserving of a starting spot at this moment in time.

Mirroring Xhaka on the right of midfield, he has been key to Arsenal's build-up play as well as their pressing of teams further forward and protection of the backline. He may not have been the popular choice ahead of the new season, but the competition Elneny has brought must be embraced.

"Well this is what we want to produce [competition], some days it is not easy for us managers to deal with that when you only have one game a week," Arteta said ahead of the game.

"But it is great to see how the players are training, competing with each other but it is very important as well that whatever the decisions are, that they keep supporting each other and we are able to maintain a good, but natural competition between them."

As for the front three, that will also remain the same. Willian and Alexandre Lacazette worked well off each other in particular, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the undisputed first name on the team sheet. Nicolas Pepe is more likely to start against Leicester where, like Ceballos, he will try to earn his starting spot back.

Art de Roche's Predicted XI: Leno; Holding, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang
