Moffat Rugby Club provides drive-thru Santa's grotto to meet coronavirus guidelines

Santa’s grotto was updated for the times to a drive-thru in Moffat on Sunday.

Community-minded members of Moffat Rugby Football Club decided to follow up on their hugely successful Halloween windows trail with festive events for all the family.

They transformed The Holm into a drive-thru grotto with Santa kept busy meeting and greeting 124 youngsters who booked for the treat on Saturday and Sunday.

Organiser for The Rams Kirsty McGregor said it was the safest socially-distanced way for the children to meet him this year because of the pandemic.

And more booked for a tour of the magical Elfwood created in the vice president’s woodland garden in Chapelbrae.

It was also a sell-out.

In addition, more than 130 homes have decorated their windows and gardens for the Big Christmas Trail which started on Friday.

Maps have been created so that anyone walking or driving around the town can see them as they pass by for free. And they have another treat to come on Sunday when Santa’s Annual Special Delivery visits the streets of Moffat and Beattock.
