Moffat Primary pupil gives Star Wars-inspired name to new M74 gritter

A Star Wars-inspired name is to be given to a gritter providing a winter maintenance service on the M74 in Annandale.

Moffat primary 6 pupil, Frederick Brown, learned that his suggestion of Han Snow-lo was chosen as a winner by judges in a competition organised by Sir Robert McAlpine’s team which operates and maintains the M74 from Gretna to Millbank for Autolink, on behalf of Transport Scotland.

A delighted Frederick will now have the honour of having his winning name put on one of eight new gritters which will be on the road from now until May to ensure the motorway remains safe for drivers.

And he has been presented with a £20 Amazon voucher.
