Moffat Farmers' Market set to return on Sunday, March 14

Some of the region’s food producers are looking forward to a bit of “normality” on Sunday when they pitch up at Moffat Farmers’ Market.

The popular monthly event was last held in December and organiser, Sarah Burchell, said they are more than ready to greet shoppers and get trading again.

She said: “Outdoor food markets are still allowed to be open under the Covid-19 restrictions and we’ve spoken to Trading Standards and environmental health and got the all clear.

“We are putting measures in place.

“The market will be outside the Town Hall only, so there will be no crafters. The set up will allow for as much of a free flow as possible under the restrictions.

“We’ll have the market cordoned off and there will be stewards regulating the number of people allowed to enter at any one time. So we are expecting some queueing.”

Sarah, who is a local lamb and hogget producer, said: “It feels really good having the market again and it is Mothers’ Day.

“We are getting good feedback from supporters desperate to have this bit of normality. The market is open from 10.30am to 3pm and we have plenty of local produce to buy.

"Local producers have had a tough time through the pandemic and really need the support and business.

“We are going to have a return of the Kirkcudbright Farmers’ Market in couple of weeks and it’s looking likely that Dumfries Market at the train station will be back in April.”
