Moffat community comes together for Picnic in the Park celebrations

Moffat’s Hope Johnstone Park was a scene of celebration on Sunday as the local community came together.

After more than 18 months of lockdowns and coronavirus restrictions Moffat Promotions put on the Picnic in the Park: Day of Hope.

A BMX track, bouncy castle, stalls and a night time showing of The Lion King were some of the attractions on offer.

Moffat Promotions chairperson Linnhe Cringean said: “The Picnic in the Park was originally planned last year because we thought after the first lockdown we’d have this to look forward to but obviously restrictions weren’t eased enough.

“This was an opportunity for the community to reconnect with each other.

“It was a relaxed day for family and friends and the response we’ve had from people is that they had an amazing day after a miserable 18 months.

“Hope Johnstone Park was gifted to the people of Moffat and it’s the biggest outdoor space we have. So it was a busy day and we wanted people to have enough space because we know some people are still concerned about social distancing.

“We want to thank everyone for attending and helping out, the Old Well Theatre for sponsoring the The Lion King and to all of the volunteers at Moffat Promotions.

“Everyone has put so much effort into this and I couldn’t have asked for any more from them.”
