A non-alcoholic, non-smoking vegetarian Sattvic lifestyle may help give the skin a natural glow and slow signs of ageing, according to a doctor who compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appearance with Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan — both in their 60s — despite Modi being 75 years old.
But what exactly is a Sattvic diet?
Rooted in the Sanskrit word “Sattva,” meaning purity, balance and positive energy, the Sattvic diet is widely followed by yoga practitioners and those who follow Ayurvedic principles. Ancient Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Chandogya Upanishad describe Sattvic food as pure, nourishing and beneficial for both the body and mind.
The diet mainly includes fresh fruits, vegetables, sprouts, grains, pulses, lentils, nuts, honey, ghee, herbs, milk and minimally processed foods. It avoids processed food, alcohol, meat, stale food and excessive spices. Experts believe such eating habits may improve digestion, boost immunity and support mental well-being.
