Modi govt will turn crisis into opportunity: Scindia on ruckus by opposition in Parliament

NEW DELHI: Facing the brunt of the ruckus created by the opposition inside Parliament, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday came down heavily on them and said the Modi government would convert this crisis into opportunity.

Scindia said this while moving the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha for consideration and passage. He moved the bill amidst shouting and sloganeering by the opposition members demanding discussion on Pegasus spyware, the ongoing farmers’ protest over the three agri-marketing laws and other issues.

Scindia’s voice was lost in the din. However, he remarked that the Modi government was committed to the welfare of farmers and development of the country.

He said, "During the pandemic, instead of discussion, the House is witnessing sloganeering… We will convert this crisis into an opportunity and provide all possible facilities to farmers and people."

He went on to attack the opposition for indulging in sloganeering instead of participating in the discussions at a time when the country is facing the Covid pandemic.

The bill was later passed without any debate amid din.

Since July 19, the House is witnessing continuous uproar over Pegasus snooping and the three contentious farm laws, leading to repeated adjournments.

The House has not been able to function properly and several bills including supplementary demand for grants were passed without any discussion.
