HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress former minister Ponnnala lakshmaiah on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the state on eight occasions to participate in inauguration of various projects and address public meetings but has never sanctioned any significant project.
"During the last eight years, while the BJP government at the centre has not implemented the assurances made to Telangana in AP reorganisation Act, PM Modi has also not taken any interest to announce any major new project or give national status to any of the irrigation projects or revive prestigious projects like Information Technology Investment Region," he said.
Recalling that PM Modi had come to launch mission Bhagiratha project in Gajwel, a constituency represented by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Congress leader sought to inform the people of Telangana that even this project was given the name Mission Bhagiratha by KCR government but was actually started by the previous Congress government to bring drinking water from Godavari river to Hyderabad from Yellampalli reservoir.
The KCR government laid a few pipelines to tap the water from this project started by the Congress government and got it inaugurated by PM Modi in the name of Mission Bhagiratha, he alleged.
Though Modi had also visited the ICRISAT and later promised to double the income of farmers, the BJP government at the centre has done nothing significant for the farmers and the agriculture sector in Telangana.
Even the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project was started by the previous Congress government and inaugurated by PM Modi during the KCR government, he said.
