Modest home on sale with secret rooms hiding an interior 'like The Great Gatsby'

An unassuming home which has been put up for sale might prove to house hunters that they should never judge a book by its cover.

The five-bedroom property is being pitched as offering plenty of room for a growing family, and is listed for between £430,000 and £460,000.

It features three huge living areas, two kitchens, and a secret games and library room hidden behind a full length mirror - which even comes with its own bar.

But it's the Art Deco design which is grabbing the attention of potential buyers in Niddrie, Australia, after the agent selling the home compared the interior to the lavish home depicted in The Great Gatsby.

It includes a marble bathroom with chandelier-style windows and a vibrant red design in the games room, offset by an animal print bar to entertain guests.

One bedroom has been given a Japanese theme, complete with a traditional wall and art work, while a feature stained glass window sits over a spa bath in another bathroom.

Outside, there is a fully paved and enclosed courtyard on the second floor, as well a 'low maintenance garden' on the ground level.

"It’s like walking on the set of The Great Gatsby," agent Pat Zoccali told Realestate.com.au.

"One bedroom is Japanese, and it’s even got a hidden room behind a full-length mirror — it’s like a speak-easy, it’s quite quirky."

The upstairs is decked out with a more modern and tradition interior after the seller decided to renovate the floor to increase its market appeal.

Pat added that although the lower level offers a unique look, many people who have shown interest in the property were likely to modernise it to bring it in line with the upper level.

He added: "I’ve had a few people through that were drawn to it by the Art Deco features of downstairs but by the same token I’ve also had a proportion of buyers that have said ‘our intention would be to buy it and start again’."
