Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet engaged as new fiancee shows off huge ring

Modern Family funnyman Eric Stonestreet has announced he is engaged.

The 49-year-old actor who played Cam on the sitcom took to social media to share a selection of snaps to reveal he had popped the question to Lindsay Schweitzer.

And without letting his funny persona fall, he joked that she didn't quite say "yes".

Alongside the trio of photos showcasing the stunning ring, Eric told his 2.2 million Instagram followers: "She said, 'She’d have her people call my people.'"

While the images showcase stunning Lindsay beaming with joy as she holds up her elegant oval-shaped ring, Eric pulls a host of silly faces to mark the joyous occasion.

In one, he pretends to look extremely nervous about the announcement, while in another he is roaring with excitement.

Famous friends and followers took to the comments section of the post to offer their congratulations.

Chuck actor Zachary Levi said: "Congrats duuuuuuuuuuude!!!"

Crooner Michael Buble also wrote: "Congrats you beautiful couple you," before adding a string of heart emojis.

And Hot Pursuit star Manolo Gonzalez Vergara commented: "Congratulations!!!!"

Makeup mogul Bobbi Brown was even on hand to tease her part in the wedding day, writing: "I'll be there to get the bride ready. And the groom."

According to People, Eric and paediatric nurse Lindsay began dating after meeting at a charity event in the summer of 2016.

In September 2017, the star opened up about his relationship during a chat with Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen joked that it's good that Lindsay is a nurse as she labelled Eric "a hypochondriac." And the two-time Emmy winner replied: "I'm a big baby, too!"

He added: "She calms me. She calms my nerves! I'm a very high-strung person."

He had previously announced in an earlier chat with Ellen that he had tried his luck on dating apps.

"Now I've done Bumble, and I've tried this other one, and the way I justify it, Ellen, is because I'm on TV, I shouldn't be eliminated from participating in what's going on in the world," he shared in 2016.
