UPDATE:
The NSW Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled a moderate flood warning that had earlier been issued for the Scone area.
Despite a higher water level being expected due to heavy rain at Kingdon Ponds, upstream of the town, the water level peaked at about 3m on Friday morning.
This was below the minor flood level of 3.2m.
EARLIER REPORT:
The State Emergency Service has warned that moderate flooding is possible at Scone on Friday morning, after intense rainfall overnight caused "sharp and dangerous rises" at Kingdon Ponds, upstream of the town.
A flood watch is in place after the area received 42.4mm of rain between 4pm and midnight on Thursday.
The NSW Bureau of Meteorology has recorded no more rainfall since midnight and the time of publication.
The SES is predicting the water will reach a moderate flood level of 3.5m on Friday morning - possibly higher.
It comes only a month after flooding caused chaos across several towns and villages in the Hunter region.
ADVICE FROM THE SES:
- Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water;
- Farmers on low lying land close to rivers and creeks are urged to monitor livestock, pumps and other equipment. Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels;
- Residents of low lying areas near the river should keep an active watch on the flood waters;
- Keep in contact with your neighbours;
- Consider impacts of possible road closures on work, family and educational commitments;
- Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on NSW SES Hunter Facebook Page and Bureau of Meteorology website;
- If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so;
