'Model professional' - Sunderland fans are all saying the same thing following Bryan Oviedo's departure

Sunderland have confirmed the departure of left-back Bryan Oviedo.

The 29-year-old Costa Rica international has rejoined Danish champions FC Copenhagen on a three-year deal and will look to help his new side qualify for the Champions League group stages.

It brings to an end his two-and-a-half year stay on Wearside following a move from Everton in January 2017.

Oviedo was part of a Black Cats side who suffered back-to-back relegations but he largely emerged from those campaigns with credit.

Indeed, when other players at the club went AWOL after they could not find a move away last summer after Sunderland's relegation to League One, Oviedo stuck with the Black Cats.

He made 31 appearances in total last season and despite a failed bid to join West Brom on loan in January he almost helped Jack Ross' side win promotion from the play-offs.

But with Lee Cattermole's summer departure, Oviedo was Sunderland's highest earner by some distance and they needed him off the books.

Oviedo revealed over the weekend that he had agreed a deal with Sunderland to leave the club 12 months before his contract was due to end and Copenhagen confirmed they signed him on a free transfer.

Nonetheless, he leaves Wearside with the respect of Sunderland fans, who all took to social media to wish him well in Denmark.

George tweeted: "Could have easily jumped ship last year but stuck at as a true professional and put in some real shifts last season. Good luck @Bryan_Oviedo ."

Peter Hewett added: "Thank you, Bryan. An absolute model professional, good luck at Copenhagen."

And another fan continued: "Best of luck Bryan. Shamed some of the players by just knuckling down and getting stuck in."
