Sci-fi sequel The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 retained top spot at the US box office at the weekend with a haul of $21.6m (£13.8m).
In its third week of release, Francis Lawrence’s film passed the $250m mark at the US box office and now has more than $500m globally. With a total of $257.7m, it is on course to overtake Captain America: The Winter Soldier as the second highest-grossing film of the year in north America.
On the traditionally weak post-Thanksgiving weekend, there were no new wide release movies. However, the Oscar-tipped Reese Witherspoon drama Wild, about a woman who sets off on a 1,000-mile trek to try and heal following the death of her mother, did well on limited release with $677,238 from just 21 cinemas.
In second place, animated sequel Penguins of Madagascar took another $11.1m in its second week of release for a total of $49.6m. Comedy sequel Horrible Bosses 2 secured third spot with $8.6m for a second-week total of $36.1m.
The top five was rounded out by animated adventure Big Hero 6, with $8.1m in its fifth week of release for a total of $177.5m, and space drama Interstellar, with a fifth-week haul of $8m for a total of $158.7m.
