Mocked up Newcastle United shirt with moneybags Saudi sponsor on sparks further takeover intrigue

A Middle East-based news channel have sparked further intrigue by posting a picture of a Newcastle United shirt with the sponsor of one of the biggest clubs emblazoned across the front of it.

The Arabic news website, which has a verified handle, have posted a picture of a mocked shirt that features the logo of Saudi Aramco, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company owned by the Public Investment Fund.

As reported by the Chronicle back in January, there could be huge backing from Aramco if the takeover - headed by Amanda Staveley - came off.

In 2018 Aramco reported a net income of $111.1 billion. It's understood that United would be handed a competitive transfer kitty that would enable the club to push for the top six.

Newcastle fans are desperate for news of an update but the Premier League now hold the key for the next stage of the takeover.

They are currently running "owner and director" tests on the takeover package put together by Staveley and the three-pronged would-be owners.
