Mock exams postponed after covid cases at school near Bristol

Students at a school near Bristol have been forced into isolation - after students tested positive for coronavirus.

Two year 10 students at St Katherine’s School in Pill tested positive for coronavirus last week.

Close contacts of the affected student have been asked to self isolate and learn from home.

The results of further PCR tests are being awaited.

The positive test has resulted in the year 10 mock exams being postponed.

The school is run by the Cathedral Schools Trust.

Trust executive principal Neil Blundell said: "We recognise that we are now seeing increased COVID infection rates across a number of primary and secondary schools in Bristol as well as nationally.

“We are carefully monitoring the situation across our trust schools, including at St Katherine's School, and closing year groups or bubbles where appropriate.

“Our experience of the impact of COVID is broadly comparable across all of our schools which reflect the local and national situation.

“We would like to reassure students, staff, parents and carers that the safety of our whole community is our paramount concern at this time."

This is the second North Somerset school to record positive covid cases since students returned after half term.

Earlier this month students were forced to self isolate after confirmed cases of covid in year eight and nine.

Both schools are being supported by Public Health England.
