2020 mock draft watch: Lions land edge help in middle of 1st round

Because the NFL draft never sleeps …

Rotoworld has come out with its latest 2020 mock draft, and the selection for the Detroit Lions is an interesting one. Analyst Thor Nystrom opted to go after building the defensive line. In this incarnation, the Lions are picking at No. 15 overall. Nystrom notes the order comes from ESPN fantasy analyst ike Clay’s post-draft win projection totals.

The choice is Penn State edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos. He’s one of several Big Ten pass rushers featured prominently in the first 32 projections.

This quote from Penn State defensive line coach Sean Spencer sure sounds like something Lions coach Matt Patricia will appreciate: “His approach is full-speed go, all the time. What you guys see on game film and what that guy does in practice is the exact same thing.”

It’s interesting to see the projection lean on a position of relative strength for the Lions. The team will have much bigger holes — potentially at least — at wide receiver, offensive tackle and cornerback, depending on contract situations.
