There is some serious debate amongst Browns fans about the level of need for a premium wideout. Those who advocate the Browns make a big splash at the position will like the latest mock draft offering from CBS.
In this projection, analyst Chris Trapasso slots hulking Ole Miss wideout D.K. Metcalf to the Browns at the No. 17 overall pick. The 6-4, 230-pound Metcalf was a dynamic playmaker before suffering a neck injury last fall. He appears fine now, and he’s a physical monster with big-play potential to help Baker Mayfield.
People would go bananas if this happened — pairing Baker Mayfield with the receiver who showed all of Twitter he now looks like a defensive end. Metcalf has serious speed too but doesn’t have consistent hands and doesn’t run many routes.
Metcalf is often projected to come off the board before the Browns pick at No. 17, so landing him in this CBS mock is a surprising bit of fodder.
