MOBO Awards 2021 nominations: Dave up for 5 gongs and Wes Nelson could bag best newcomer

The 2021 MOBO Awards will return next month and the nominations have been revealed today.

The bash - that will take place on December 5 at Coventry Building Society Arena - will celebrate black music and culture.

And leading the nominations is Streatham native Dave - full name David Orobosa Omoregie - with the 23-year-old up for an impressive five gongs.

The Clash musician is up for best male act, best hip hop act, album of the year, song of the year, and video of the year at the prestigious ceremony.

Central Cee is sure to be excited after finding out he has four nominations and is in with a chance of bagging the best newcomer, best male act, best drill act and song of the year awards.

Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks is nominated for best newcomer, best female act, and album of the year.

Also in the best newcomer category is Love Island star Wes Nelson who has established himself as a recording artist after releasing his debut single See Nobody in 2020.

Little Simz up for best female act, best hip hop act and video of the year.

Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya scores a nomination for best performance in a TV show/film for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah.

The person trusted with hosting the ceremony is yet to have been announced.

Organisers said the nominees had shown “talent and range” but also “resilience” following a challenging 20 months during the covid pandemic.

Kanya King CBE, founder and CEO of MOBO Group, said: “The past 20 months have been extremely challenging for artists everywhere but as always we are seeing creatives rise up and adapt, even in a global pandemic.

“This year’s crop of MOBO nominees have not only shown resilience but incredible talent and range.
