Mobility scooter left charging overnight causes fire at Belconnen store

Emergency crews were called to a shop in Belconnen overnight after an electric mobility scooter caught fire.

The scooter caught fire while it was charging inside a building on Weedon Close at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Several fire crews were called to the scene, after the building was filled with smoke from the blaze.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokeswoman said the fire was quickly extinguished.

No injuries were reported from the blaze.

Fire and rescue crews carried out several ventilation and atmospheric monitoring checks on the building, which was found to be safe a short time later.
