A barrier-free washroom jointly developed by Toyota Motor Corp. and housing fixtures giant Lixil Corp. will be among the amenities rolled out at the Tokyo Paralympics opening ceremony on Aug. 24.

Dubbed the "mobile toilet," the private washroom aims to remove a hurdle to attending outdoor events by helping wheelchair users answer nature's call in comfort on the go.

Measuring 4.7 meters long, 2.2 meters wide, and 2.7 meters high, the spacious unit features an accessible ramp with a gentle slope and width designed in accordance with International Paralympic Committee guidelines.

Towable by car, the unit will be deployed at the Paralympic Games during the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the marathon event.
