A temporary Covid-19 testing site is being set up in Ferguslie Park.
Scheduled to open on Wednesday at St Ninian’s Church Hall, the drop-in testing centre is for people who do not have symptoms of the virus.
The mobile unit is being set up in the scheme in a bid to identify people who may have the virus but do not yet know.
It comes as the Ferguslie Park area continues to record higher than average covid infection rates.
The mobile unit will be open from 9am to 5.30pm each day, apart from Thursday, March 25, when the hours will be 11.30am to 8pm.
It will close at 5.30pm on Tuesday, March 30.
The centre is being run by Renfrewshire Council as part of the national rollout of community testing.
Chris Dalrymple, the council’s chief environmental health officer, said: “I would encourage everyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ferguslie Park to come down and get a test at some point over the next week.
“While we are pleased to say the overall covid rate has been falling across the area recently, Ferguslie is one of the areas with above-average rates and the test site is intended to change that.
“Other asymptomatic testing in Renfrewshire and across the country shows that in any community at any given time there will be people who have the virus and are spreading it without knowing.
“So by getting tested and finding out if you are one of them, you will be helping protect your loved ones and your community.”
The centre, which will not require an appointment, will use lateral flow tests which provide a result within 30 to 45 minutes.
Test results will be delivered by text message so people are asked to bring along their mobile phones.
Anyone who tests positive will be asked to take a follow-up PCR test – the same ones used in the government-run testing centres – to confirm the result.
The person will be asked to self-isolate in line with national guidelines and contact tracing will take place.
People living in the area who have already received the Covid-19 vaccine are still be asked to take part in the testing as the vaccine does not prevent people from contracting and/or passing it on to others.
Those who are displaying symptoms are being asked to book a test at one of the UK Government sites at either the drive-thru facility at Glasgow Airport or the walk-in centre on Paisley’s Bridge Street.
