Mobile hairdresser with a heart of gold is this week’s 'Say it With Flowers' recipient

A self-employed mobile hairdresser has been praised for going "above and beyond" in caring for her elderly clients.

Andrea Ballantyne was described as a ray of sunshine in the lives of her customers and was this week nominated for our 'Say it With Flowers' gong by her loving daughter, Lauren Kennedy.

Lauren praised her mum's selfless dedication to her elderly clients and her community, with the mum-of-three selflessly giving up her free time during lockdown to run errands for some of her customers.

She also regularly checked-[in with them with chats on the phone.

As well as devoting her life to caring for her two sons Aiden and Declan, the 47-year-old "always puts everyone before herself" and is "loved and appreciated" by everyone who knows her.

Lauren told Lanarkshire Live : “My mum has been a mobile hairdresser for over 20 years.

“My nomination was because during lockdown she looked after her clients, who are mostly elderly, by being a major support to them all.

"She treats them more like family.

“She went for their shopping and made sure that they were not lonely by checking in with them over the phone and she still does.”

And when Lauren told us about her amazing mum Andrea, we were only too pleased to be able to help, surprising her with a stunning floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

Lauren added: “Quite recently she lost some of her clients and I wanted to show her how loved and appreciated she is.

“Everybody thinks the world of her and we would all be lost without her.

“I think she will be quite shocked to receive the flowers, but she will be over the moon.”

And on receiving the flowers Andrea told us: “I’m delighted to receive the flowers and want to thank Lauren for nominating me and to the Wishaw Press for organising the competition.”
